A n g e l o C o n t i n i Strumentista e ricercatore “nato” con il trombone, strumento nel quale ha riconosciuto la propria voce artistica attivo nel campo del jazz e della musica sperimentale, vanta collaborazioni prestigiose. Giovanissimo negli anni 70 inizia a tenere concerti col trombettista Guido Mazzon e il percussionista Toni Rusconi, frequentando l’inquieto mondo della musica improvvisata . Con Mazzon e altri musicisti italiani e stranieri esegue l’opera “Dressoir” composta dall’olandese M. Mengelberg al Teatro Arsenale di Milano. Dopo vari altri concerti collabora al quartetto Lodati-Robbins entrando nella “Cooperativa Musica Creativa” mentre suona anche nel ‘Gruppo Contemporaneo” e incide I’ L.P. “Aspettando i dinosauri”. In vari teatri italiani esegue dal vivo le musiche del balletto ‘Dressoir” che la Compagnia di Danza Contemporanea di Milano. Irresistibilmente attratto dalla contaminazione artistica è protagonista di “contatti”, come lui stesso li definisce, fra musica e pittura collaborando con artisti direttamente nei loro studi. Lo scrittore Umberto Lucarelli lo vuole sempre alle presentazioni dei suoi libri e gli fa incidere le colonne sonore dei suoi films. Dal 1983 e per un decennio è primo trombone della Big-Band “The Swingers” di Cremona. Ha affinato una sensibilità particolare che lo ha condotto alla profonda conoscenza dello strumento e allo studio di tecniche alternative tipiche del repertorio contemporaneo. Respirazione circolare, multiphonics, esplorazione di ogni recondito angolo del proprio strumento ne fanno uno stilista efficace e raffinato. Esplora il rapporto con il silenzio in performance in solo e in gruppo, ma non disdegna collaborazioni solistiche e di sezione in ambiti più convenzionali. Tiene stage e master sulla tecniche alternative dello strumento e sulla musica improvvisata, ma è anche un esperto di dijeridoo. Da alcuni anni, in quartetto ed in duo, collabora con il contrabbassista milanese Giorgio Mancini, con il quale ha anche proposto l’abbinamento dell’esecuzione strumentale alla direzione di testi letterali scelti e letti da lui stesso e dallo stesso Mancini. Nel più recente incontro con Gianni Mimmo apre una collaborazione viva, un interplay interessante e quasi cameristico che è la cifra stessa di questo duo. He explores in a intringuing way sound –silence relationship performing alone and in ensembles, but he doesn’t look down on working as a soloist and in brass sections in more conventional fields. He holds training periods and MA courses on alternative techniques of the instrument and improvised music, but he is also an expert didgeridoo player. In recent years he has collaborated with the Milanese double-bass player Giorgio Mancini, in quartet and duets, with whom he has proposed combining instrumental execution with the reading of literary texts from various writers, philosophers, common people. He has recently collaborated with the sopranist and intense performer Gianni Mimmo in a highly live performed duo. Their work “Two’s days/Tuesdays” has been recorded by Amirani records (amrn #02) and performed in so many festivals and concerts. With Gianni Mimmo and Xabier Iriondo has played the music of the film Kurks_truth in the end edited by Amirani records (amrn #05).
